Science and engineering calculations often require the interpolation between known data points for calculating and estimating values. The FORECAST function in Excel offers a linear approach for interpolation and LOGEST for basic logarithmic trend lines. Nonlinear trend interpolation and extrapolation after known data points is more complex than the built-in function capability. There are several paid Excel add-in solutions for Cubic spline and other nonlinear approaches; however there is also a very good VBA user defined function available for nonlinear interpolation here.
