Excel Help for Download Data Spreadsheet Does Not Download The S&p 500 Index Data (^gspc) in Excel Portfolio Optimization Template

	I can't get the Download Data spreadsheet to download the S&P 500 index data (^GSPC). What am I missing? Al B.

	S&P 500 index data Rate this: (4/5 from 2 votes) It may depend on the periodicity whether the data is available via Yahoo. One workaround is to use the ETF: SPY for index level data.

	unable to download ^GSPC Rate this: (3/5 from 1 vote) The lastest download version indeed offers solution to get data from yahoo or google and supposedly can get ^GSPC data. However, I find the updated version still cannot download ^GSPC data from Yahoo. Is this a limitation with Yahoo, or am I missing the latest download version? Thanks.

	Updated version now supports ^GSPC and indices Rate this: (1.7/5 from 3 votes) An updated version from the download link now supports Yahoo Finance again with ability to get indices such as ^GSPC and lower frequency data.

	Download Data spreadsheet updates Rate this: (3/5 from 3 votes) Yahoo Finance have permanently disabled their market data API. We have updated the solution to use Google Finance instead which can be downloaded with the portfolio optimization template. Some ticker symbols are different with Google Finance and so you'll need to go to that site to ascertain symbols. 'SPY' is an ETF of the S&P 500 which will give the same daily returns.
